Double save with three-point and pivot get-ups
The keeper sprints towards the server, makes a low collapse save in front of a mini goal, gets up with the three-point technique and chains a second save from the other server; then the pivot get-up is trained to switch sides from the ground.
Step 1Sprint a la posición base
1 / 3
El portero sale desde el cono lejano y se coloca en posición base delante de la miniportería.
Objective
Master the two ways of getting up after a save (three-point contact and hip pivot) to be in time for the second save in rebound situations.
Organisation
12x10 m area with a 2 m mini goal at one end. Start cone 8 m from the mini goal and set-position cone 3 m from it. Two servers with balls either side of the set position, about 4 m away. Keepers rotate: the one who saves becomes a server.
Development
- 1Phase 1, three-point get-up: the keeper sprints from the far cone to the set-position cone in front of the mini goal.
- 2The first server rolls a firm grass-cutter to one side; the keeper collapse-dives and secures the ball.
- 3They get up with three points of contact (bottom hand, bottom foot and top foot), collecting feet under knees, knees under hips and hips under shoulders.
- 4Without pause, the second server plays another low or mid-height ball to the other side; the keeper makes the second save.
- 5Phase 2, pivot: the keeper saves a grass-cutter to the right and, instead of standing, uses hip momentum to pivot and change direction, making the second save to the left almost from the ground.
- 64-6 reps per phase and side; the saving keeper becomes a server and the server joins the queue.
Coaching points4
- Three points of contact to get up: feet under knees, knees under hips, hips under shoulders.
- Use the momentum of the dive to get up; never come to a full stop on the ground.
- In the pivot the hips lead: the turn converts the energy of the first save into the movement for the second.
- Secure the first ball or push it well away before thinking about the second.
Common mistakes3
- Getting up square by pushing with both hands and ending with the back to the second ball.
- Lying down admiring the first save and arriving late for the second.
- Pivoting without control and rolling on the ground instead of turning on the hip.
Variations3
- Second ball at mid height to demand an extension dive instead of a collapse.
- Coach calls the side of the second save after the first.
- Work with two keepers kneeling between cones: on the call they get up and face a rebound from a striker.
Progressions2
- Servers use the feet and less time between the first and second ball.
- Three consecutive balls alternating sides and heights.
Regressions2
- Soft rolled balls and a two-second pause between saves.
- Get-up only, without a second ball: dive, get up and return to the set position.
Tips
- Teach the get-up first without a ball, counting the three contact points aloud.
- Use the mini goal so the keeper feels the real reference of protecting a space.
