A la señal, el portero deja el poste y recupera el centro de la portería.

Objective

Train the response to auditory and visual cues and the ability to chain a second save after a parry.

Organisation

Penalty area. The coach with balls on the penalty spot; a striker with another ball 15 m out, at an angle. Keeper beside the post with one hand touching it. Two cones 1.5 m in front of each post mark the save zone. 2-3 keepers alternate turns.

Development

  1. 1The keeper stands beside the post with one hand on it and eyes on the coach.
  2. 2On the coach's sound signal, the keeper moves with fast lateral steps to the centre of the goal and takes the set position.
  3. 3As soon as the keeper arrives, the coach strikes a low or mid-height ball to one side; the keeper catches or parries.
  4. 4Without pause, the striker shoots the second ball to the opposite side from the edge of the box; the keeper must get up and reach it with a dive or a collapse.
  5. 5The turn ends when the second ball is controlled or goes out.
  6. 6Each keeper completes 6-8 turns alternating the starting post; the coach varies the time between the signal and the shot.

Coaching points4

  • Listen for the signal and react with the first step towards the centre without turning the back to the ball.
  • Stop in the set position before the first shot: arriving balanced beats arriving far.
  • After the first save, get up on the ball side and locate the second cue immediately.
  • Call out the location of the second ball to speed up the read.

Common mistakes3

  • Leaving the post looking at the ground and losing sight of the coach's ball.
  • Staying on the ground after the first save hoping the second shot will not come.
  • Crossing the feet on the lateral movement and arriving off balance.

Variations3

  • Replace the sound signal with a visual one: the coach raises an arm or a coloured bib.
  • The striker chooses between shooting or dribbling into a 1v1 for the second action.
  • Start from the ground, seated or lying down, to increase the demand on getting up.

Progressions2

  • Shorten the time between the signal and the first shot until the keeper has to save while still moving.
  • Add a third ball thrown by hand by the coach for three consecutive actions.

Regressions2

  • Serve the first ball by hand and delay the second shot until the keeper is back on the feet.
  • Start from the centre of the goal without the initial movement.

Tips

  • Use different signals (whistle, clap, colour) to prevent anticipation.
  • Maximum 8 turns per keeper: this is a maximum-intensity drill.
